Middle Eastern Dance- Catie Dal Cerro began studying Middle Eastern Dance in 1991, as a student of Tzigane (Barb Albrechtson) in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  As a Liberal Studies graduate of Viterbo University (‘96), Catie has felt honored to attend workshops throughout the years with some of the world’s best dancers including but not limited to Maleeha (Iowa), Mona N’Wal (Madison), Ruby Jazayre (Indiana), Cassandra (Minneapolis), Mahmoud Reda (Egypt) and Mariano Parra (New York).  For the several years she danced with the Sahara Desert Dancers Middle Eastern dance troupe of LaCrosse, Catie enjoyed performing in shows, charity events, and the occasional bellygram.  She still occasionally dances with the troupe.  Catie has been studying with Sahra Saeeda since July 2008 and she is Journey to Egypt Certified-Levels I & II.  Her dance name is Aliya, which she was given by her foreign coffee shop pals in college as she reminded them of their airline Aliya Air back home, where flights were often late on arrival.  Class will, however, start on time!
She is a very friendly and outgoing person who loves to enjoy life and have fun - the healthy way.  Please come in and join her at River Country Fitness where she will make you feel comfortable and have fun.

About the Instructor

Amy Carriere is an early childhood special education teacher that moved to the area a year ago.  She has co-presented state-wide to other teachers and professionals in the area of early education on topics such as Incorporating Sensory Rich Activities in the classroom and Music and Movement.  Currently out of the classroom and working part time as program support for CESA 10 school districts, Amy spends her time with her husband and two young children, ages 2 and 3.  She has been in search of activities to get her children involved with and decided to offer a class to get other kids in the community to move, socialize and have fun together.

Gross motor development gives your child the ability to move in a variety of ways, the ability to control his/her body, and helps to promote child’s self-esteem. Between the ages of 1 and 3, kids respond best to music when they actively experience it. Passive listening (like in the car) is fine, but look for opportunities to get your child rocking, marching, rolling, tapping, clapping, and moving to the beat. Movement paired with music increases development of balance, coordination, rhythm, strength, endurance, spatial relationships and body awareness.  Kids this age are learning to master basic movements like walking, running, kicking, and throwing. They're naturally active, so be sure to provide lots of opportunities for your child to practice and build on these skills.

All classes welcome new members, Group exercise is a fun way to get your exercise, so what are you waiting for? come in and try a class or two.  Classes are free to members and $5 for non members unless otherwise specified.

Wing Chun Kung Fu is a powerful martial art that deals with close-quarter combat and centerline strikes.  It is a very effective self-defense and enables you to utilize your opponents' strength against themselves.  Al's Wing Chun strikes and kicks are right in the centerline of the body, making them hard to see and block by your opponents'; so your strikes do not miss.  Because Wing Chun is a soft style, you'll soon develop very fast hand, leg, and body movements; and from training with the wooden dummy and sandbags, you'll quickly develop amazing strength and durability.  Please email for more information and if interested.
Tai Chi- This is not one of the new fad classes so many are now using for group classes. Tai Chi is a martial art that keeps the bone structure aligned with the forces of Heaven and Earth, and transferring the Earth force through the bone structure into a single point of discharge. Relaxing in movement while distinguishing the full (Yang) from the empty (Yin). Allowing the Chi to circulate and move the muscles, bones and tendons in slow, coordinated movements without ever pushing the physical limitations of the body to extremes and moving smoothly and continuously with total bodily integration.

*We are very fortunate to be able to offer Wing Chun Kung Fu and Tai Chi-Sifu (master) Thomas Yang will be instructing these classes and is very well trained and has many years experience.  There are fees associated with these classes.  As always members will receive a discount.
